Homemade bread
Ana Maria and Gabriela Costea are known as some of the best housewives in the village of Popești. They learned traditional recipes from their grandmother. At the end of the week, they prepare various traditional Moldovan dishes. Homemade bread is a staple. Bread, as their grandmother taught them, is like a marriage. It requires love, time, and patience. Everything is done at a unique pace, and nothing should be rushed. This might be the source of the old lady’s superstition passed on to her granddaughters: as the housewife is, so is the bread—beautiful and good or tough and uncooked.
Ingredients for a large loaf:
– 200 ml of milk
– 2 eggs
– 1 tablespoon of sugar
– 1 teaspoon of salt
– 430-450 g of flour
– 3 tablespoons of oil
– 20 g of fresh yeast
Preparation:
Sift the flour well into a bowl and make a hole in the middle. Add the salt, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix little by little. Knead it well and let it rise, covering the bowl with a cloth.
