Cabbage stewed with pork cracklings
This is a commonly prepared dish in Horlești commune. People grow cabbage in their gardens, along with the necessary vegetables, and nearly everyone raises pigs. Mrs. Maricica first made sautéed cabbage with pork jowl when she was a child, and she cooked it in the oven. She believes, as is often the case in the village, that food tastes better when it’s made in the outdoor oven. She explained the steps of preparation:
“I put the pork jowls in, fry them, then add the onions, and the meat. When the meat is sautéed, I add the cabbage with a bit of lard, and I let it simmer until it reduces. I constantly watch the fire and the cabbage, stirring to prevent it from sticking, and add a little water if the cabbage reduces too much.” Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

– 3 large onions
– 300 grams of pork jowls
– 1 kilogram of meat
– homemade vegetables

Preparation:
